The morning started bright and early at 8:15 with a conference in our hotel. We learned about the Uruguayan Education system from the Director of Education, the Council of National Policy, and the Secretary General. We also learned about the Uruguayan linguistic policy and the innovative blended learning model which is a public/private partnership. This model depends on complete connectivity throughout the entire country, which is the domain of CEIBAL's CEILAB. We also learned about cultural awareness and the communication styles of Latin Americans vs. Americans. Americans tend to communicate directly and Latin Americans use context clues to communicate more gently. In the evening we went to a reception at the director of the Fulbright programs Mercedes Jimenez de Aréchaga. It was a great opportunity to experience the prestige and weight of our experience here.
