Day one of the #fulbright experience started with rounding up the teachers in the United States so that we could travel to our host country Uruguay as a cohort. I met the other Chicagoan, Shanna, at O'Hare and we took a quick hop to Atlanta where one by one the other participants gathered. From Atlanta, we flew overnight to Santiago de Chile, where we had a few hours to get to know the people of Chile, at least those who hang out at the airport. Then it was over the Andes to our destination, the beautiful city of Montevideo.
Not a moment was wasted as we were whisked into our first learning experience, a presentation by the different governmental institutions such as ANEP, the administration for education, and CEILAB, a support for all things technology in schools. The presentations were inspirational. What struck me was the innovative concept of project based learning which is present in all schools. We were then given some good information on the population of Uruguay, some key demographics and how to communicate effectively and gracefully while we are guests in this country.
